Approximately two hundred and fifty people attended the Fiesta Fund Raiser held on August 2 at Oak Hills Church.
We were met by live Mariachi music and a silent auction that offered sixty five different items for the guests to bid on. The silent auction alone brought in $9,600. The event grossed a total of $38,475.Delicious Chicken and Fajita plates with all of the trimmings were catered by Mamacita’s Restaurant and Cantina from Kerrville.
Mision de Candelilla Board President, David Turpin was the event’s MC. Honorary Chair, John Hierholzer brought humor and inspiring comments about the importance of mission work.
This year’s Honoree was RN Judy Hutcherson. Judy has been actively involved with MdC serving as Board President in 2012-2013. She has also served on multiple mission trips over the last seventeen years. Last year Judy started a sewing ministry with women in several of the villages that MdC goes to. She is also the initiater of “Christmas in San Vicente.” She inspired families from her home church-Fredericksburg United Methodist Church- to buy Christmas gifts for every person in the village. Mision de Candelilla takes all of the gifts and people from FUMC in December.
Reverand Bobby Vitek was this year’s keynote speaker. His humor had the crowd laughing, but his stories also evoked emotion in the hearts of the listeners for the hurting in our world. Three people were asked to share their testimonies on how their trips to Mexico or with local missions has impacted their lives. The three were: Pastor Jason Frye, Jesus Casas, and student, Jackson Bernhard.
WE thank you all for your continued support of the Mission and another great Fiesta!
